All our coffees are sourced in hermetically sealed bags (GrainPro) due to the quality-of-life benefits received by smallholder farmers such as 20 – 70% increase in revenue to common market value, food/crop loss prevention, and environmental impact by farmers not having to use synthetics or harmful chemicals.

GrainPro also impacts coffee quality (flavor/longevity) and is key for the safekeeping of green coffee from farm to roaster.

While at the roaster, we continue sealing our coffee in GrainPro bags to ensure no additional moisture or unwanted odors affect the product.

About Grounds for Health:

Women are the backbone of the coffee workforce, especially at origin where they provide 70% of the labor planting, picking, sorting, and processing the coffee beans. Cervical cancer is the #1 cause of cancer death in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia, where coffee is grown; and, it is entirely preventable with early screening and treatment. Grounds for Health is an international non-profit organization with a mission to prevent cervical cancer in coffee communities. We work within the public health system to develop a sustainable, comprehensive program to keep women healthy and stop deaths from this entirely preventable disease

We put a freshness, quality, and consistency guarantee into every bag of our coffee, but what does that mean for our customers?

We wanted to showcase the steps we take to ensure every bag of coffee we produce is of the utmost quality!

Freshness:

We roast in small batches to ensure everything we send to our customers was recently roasted. We also source our raw materials during the current and optimal season and are shipped in GrainPro bags to keep the green beans completely sealed so that no odors, mold, or moisture can seep into the beans on their journey. GrainPro bags have incredible sustainability benefits, which we discuss more on our hermetically sealed bags page.

Quality:

All the coffee we source from our Signature Blends to our Single Origin's has been put through numerous rounds of sampling and cupping to confirm the product's quality. We are focused on quality first, which is why our blends feature coffees that score in the range of 86 – 88pts. That is truthfully unheard of when it comes to blends, as most coffee companies use lower-grade coffees to lower costs but still charge specialty prices. Using high-scoring coffees is where we find the difference between our blends compared to those on the market.

Consistency:

Consistency to us is the culmination of our entire coffee program. We strive to be consistent with our flavor profiles, which stem from stringent sourcing, rigorous quality control, and steady/repeatable roasting. We also consistently aim to be open about our goals as an organization and where we plan to take our coffee program.

Our Sumatra single-origin is back in stock! This coffee cupped exceptionally well, and we are glad to add this to our rotation. You’ll find very similar properties to our previous Sumatra, such as rich cocoa with a bold and sweet flavor.

This coffee is from a small mill in the Pegasing district of Takengon, in Sumatra’s coffee-famous Aceh region. The coffee itself is from the Gayo 1 varietal. The international coffee community recognizes the Gayo 1 varietal for its high quality, sweet and clean taste, and pronounced earthy notes.

The mill serves several small coffee producers within the Pantan Musara villages; several years ago, these producers were dislocated from their homes and land because of a natural disaster. They have rebuilt their lives and farms with a new focus on coffee. Unlike the vast majority of other Sumatran coffee receiving and processing centers, this mill is producing Washed coffees, as well as Naturals.

The livelihoods of coffee farmers are urgently threatened by, Climate Change, Low Yields, Disease & Pests, and Barriers to Quality. This is why we partnered with World Coffee Research's "Check-Off Program" to contribute funds to their research for every lb of green coffee we purchase.

World Coffee Research looks to solve the issues farmers are facing through collaborative, scientific research, and development.

Some of these initiatives we are helping to fund include; safeguarding coffee genetic resources, breeding for coffee quality, and sustainable income for farmers through coffee farming improvement.

We have some exciting news for you! We're proud to announce that today on Earth Day we are officially Climate Neutral Certified through @beclimateneutral

We've spent the last three months working with Climate Neutral to measure our 2020 carbon footprint. We've calculated all of the emissions that it takes to make and ship our products to your doorstep (and Amazon). We then offset all our carbon by investing in climate change solutions, including 1% for the Planet.

But the work doesn't stop there. We must reduce our future emissions to limit climate change. Over the next few months, we'll be hard at work looking to reduce our emissions across all areas of our business. We are reevaluating our packaging and how we do business as a whole.
