Lelit Fred Prima

The Lelit Fred Prima is a compact espresso grinder for people who would rather control the grind themselves than hand the job over to timers and menus. Its 38mm conical burrs pair with stepless micrometric adjustment, giving you a straightforward way to make small grind changes as your coffee and espresso recipe change. Dosing is equally direct: place the portafilter under the chute, press it against the grinding switch, and release when you have enough coffee. With a 250g hopper and polished stainless-steel body, the Fred Prima keeps the setup small, tidy, and focused on the essentials.

  • 38mm Conical Burrs

The Fred Prima uses 38mm conical burrs in a compact grinder body. The burr set is sized for home espresso use and works with the grinder's fine adjustment system for dialing in shot flow.

  • Stepless Micrometric Adjustment

The side adjustment knob moves through the grind range without fixed click stops, so you can make small corrections instead of jumping from one preset step to the next.

  • Press and Hold Portafilter Dosing

The Fred Prima does not use timed dose presets. Press the portafilter against the grinding switch to
start the motor, then release it to stop.

  • Direct Portafilter Grinding

Ground coffee exits the chute straight into the portafilter. The built-in filterholder support positions the basket beneath the chute, so there is no separate dosing chamber or transfer step.

  • 250g Bean Hopper

The 250g hopper is designed for keeping a working supply of beans ready to grind. It suits users who
normally keep one espresso coffee loaded rather than weighing and swapping beans for every shot.

  • Polished Stainless Steel Body

The stainless steel housing gives the Fred Prima a classic Lelit look while keeping the footprint compact enough for smaller espresso stations.

No Menus. Just Grind.

The Fred Prima's appeal is its lack of complication. There is no programmable dose screen to set up and no automatic stop point to manage. Set the grind, hold the portafilter against the switch, and stop when your dose is where you want it. For those who already weigh their espresso dose on a scale - or simply prefer manual control - that stripped back workflow can be a standout rather than a limitation.

Additional Features

Compact Footprint
Designed for smaller counters and home espresso stations where a full-size commercial grinder
would be unnecessary.

250g Hopper
Keeps a useful supply of coffee ready for repeated espresso preparation.

Filterholder Support
Positions the portafilter directly below the chute during grinding.

Easy Routine Cleaning
Lelit recommends cleaning the hopper at least once a week and cleaning the burrs after approximately 4kg of coffee.

Home Focused Duty Cycle
The Fred Prima is intended for domestic and similar light-duty environments rather than continuous professional service.

  • Pros

    • Stepless micrometric adjustment for small
      grind changes.
    • Manual start/stop dosing with no
      programming required.
    • Direct-to-portafilter grinding.
    • Compact footprint for smaller espresso
      stations.
    • 250g hopper for a ready-to-grind setup.
    • Polished stainless-steel body
    • Simple controls that are quick to learn
  • Considerations

    • No programmable single- or double-dose timers.
    • Manual dosing is best paired with a scale if you want exact gram targets.
    • Hopper workflow is less convenient for
      frequent bean switching
    • Intended for home and light-duty use, not continuous commercial service.
    • Maximum continuous operation is 20 seconds ON followed by 60 seconds OFF to not overheat the motor.
    • Not designed for back to back high volume use.

Lelit Fred Prima PL043MMI FAQ

Does the Fred Prima have programmable dosing?

No. Grinding is fully manual. Press the portafilter against the grinding switch to start, then release it to stop.

Is the Fred Prima designed for espresso?

Yes. Its conical burrs, micrometric adjustment, portafilter support, and direct-to-portafilter workflow are built around espresso preparation.

Is the grind adjustment stepped or stepless?

It uses stepless micrometric adjustment, so you can make small grind changes without fixed click positions.

How do I adjust the grind size?

Turn the adjustment knob clockwise for a finer grind and counterclockwise for a coarser grind.

Can I grind directly into the portafilter?

Yes. The portafilter sits beneath the chute on the filterholder support and activates the grinding switch directly.

How large is the hopper?

The Fred Prima has a 250g bean hopper.

How often should I clean it?

Lelit recommends cleaning the hopper at least once a week and cleaning the burrs after approximately 4kg of coffee has been ground.

How is the Fred Prima different from the William PL72?

The Fred Prima is the more stripped-back option. It uses 38mm conical burrs and manual press-andhold dosing, while the William PL72 uses 64mm flat burrs and programmable timed dosing through
the LCC. Choose the Fred if you want compact, manual control; choose the William if you want a larger burr platform and more automated dosing.
