Lelit Fred Tempo
The Lelit Fred Tempo is a compact on-demand espresso grinder that adds timed dosing to a simple, portafilter first workflow. Its 38mm conical burrs pair with stepless micrometric adjustment, while an electronic timer lets you set one grinding cycle from 2 to 20 seconds.
Once the timer is set, press the portafilter against the grinding switch and the Tempo runs the programmed cycle. Need a second dose? Let the first cycle finish and press again. A three-second dose memory can also resume the remaining grind time if you briefly release the portafilter mid cycle.
The result is a grinder that sits between fully manual and programmable grinding automation. It is more repeatable than press and hold dosing, but still compact, tactile, and easy to operate without navigating a digital menu.
Lelit Fred Tempo Features:
Timed Dosing Without a Display
The Fred Tempo handles dosing differently from grinders built around screens and multiple saved presets. Programming happens through a dedicated button and pilot light. When you enter programming mode, add or subtract time in half-second increments, then let the grinder save the setting.
After that, everyday use is simple. Press the portafilter against the grinding switch and the Tempo completes the saved cycle. The timer adds repeatability without turning the grinder into a menu driven appliance. This makes the Tempo especially useful for a home espresso setup where one coffee stays in the hopper and the same basic dose is prepared repeatedly throughout the day.
Additional Features
250g Bean Hopper
Holds a working supply of beans for a hopper-based daily espresso routine.
Pilot Light Programming Feedback
The indicator light shows when the grinder is on, when it is in programming mode, and when an interrupted dose is waiting to be completed.
Factory Reset
The grinder can be returned to its factory timer setting. The manual specifies a 6-second factory setting for one dose.
Polished Stainless-Steel Body
A compact metal housing designed to pair naturally with Lelit home espresso machines.
Easy Routine Maintenance
Lelit recommends cleaning the hopper at least weekly and cleaning the burrs after approximately 4kg of ground coffee.
Home-Focused Duty Cycle
The grinder is designed for domestic and similar light-duty use rather than continuous professional service.

Lelit Fred Tempo PL044MMT FAQ
Does the Fred Tempo have programmable dosing?
Yes. You can program one grinding cycle from 2 to 20 seconds. The time can be adjusted in 0.5-second increments.
Does it save separate single and double doses?
No. The Tempo stores one programmed grind time. To produce a second dose, let the first cycle finish and activate the grinder again for another full programmed cycle.
Does the Fred Tempo grind by weight?
No. It doses by grinding time and does not have a built-in scale. If you want to confirm the exact dose in grams, use a separate coffee scale.
What happens if I remove the portafilter before the timer finishes?
The grinder remembers the remaining time for three seconds. Press the grinding switch again within that window and the Tempo completes the unfinished portion of the programmed dose.
Is the grind adjustment stepped or stepless?
Stepless. The micrometric adjustment knob is not limited by fixed click positions, allowing small grind-size changes.
Which direction makes the grind finer?
Turn the grind-adjustment knob clockwise for a finer grind and counterclockwise for a coarser grind.
How often should I clean it?
Lelit recommends cleaning the bean hopper at least once a week and cleaning the burrs after approximately 4kg of ground coffee.
How is the Fred Tempo different from the Fred Prima?
The main difference is dosing control. The Fred Prima uses fully manual, press-and-hold grinding, so the grinder runs only as long as you keep the portafilter against the switch. The Fred Tempo adds a programmable timer, allowing you to save one grind time from 2 to 20 seconds and repeat that cycle automatically.
Both use a compact, stepless micrometric espresso-grinding workflow, but the Tempo is better suited to users who want more repeatable timed dosing, while the Prima is the simpler choice for those who prefer fully manual control.
