Description
Description
A Different Side of Sumatra: Our Asman Gayo Dark Roast brings together the bold, comforting character of a traditional dark roast with the quality and complexity of an exceptional 89-point Sumatran coffee. Sourced from the highlands of Aceh, this coffee offers a different perspective on what Indonesian coffee can be.
100% Arabica Coffee: Grown by smallholder farmers belonging to the Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative, founded by award-winning coffee producer Asman Arianto.
Quality First: While Sumatra is widely associated with traditional wet-hulled processing, Asman and his cooperative have expanded into washed, honey, and natural processing to explore new expressions of the region's coffee. We bring that same commitment to quality to our dark roasting approach.
Freshly Roasted: Roasted fresh in small batches to develop the deeper, richer character of a dark roast while respecting the quality of the coffee itself.

About The Coffee
For this release, I would position Asman Gayo as a return to Sumatra for Coffee Bros., but with a different approach to sourcing and quality.
Sumatran coffees are traditionally associated with earthy, heavy-bodied flavors and wet-hulled processing. What makes Asman Gayo particularly interesting is the cooperative's focus on alternative processing methods, quality improvement, and direct benefits for its 350+ members.
At 89 points, this is also an exceptionally high-scoring coffee to feature as a dark roast. I would emphasize that we're intentionally taking a high-quality specialty coffee into a darker roast profile, rather than relying on roasting alone to create intensity.
Below is the product page in the same format as your previous releases.
About the Producer
Originally from Palembang in South Sumatra, Asman Arianto moved to Aceh Tengah in 1998 and began building his career in coffee.
His early work centered on collecting and processing traditionally wet-hulled coffee, the method most closely associated with Sumatra. Over time, however, Asman began exploring other processing techniques, including fully washed, honey, and natural processing, recognizing opportunities to improve quality and create more distinctive coffees.
In 2018, he founded the Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative, bringing together local coffee farmers around a shared commitment to quality, education, and economic opportunity.
Today, the cooperative includes more than 350 members, many of whom have rebuilt their lives after displacement caused by natural disasters.
Asman's approach goes beyond simply purchasing coffee cherries. Cooperative members benefit from competitive cherry prices, additional end-of-season premiums tied to higher-quality lots, and ongoing training in cultivation and processing.
His work demonstrates how a commitment to better coffee can also create meaningful opportunities for the communities producing it.
